Glastonbury
Also known as the Isle of Avalon Sights To See Glastonbury Tor: This site is the best I have found about the Tor and explains the history and stories behind it better than I ever could. Unfortunately while I was there the church tower on the top was surrounded by scaffolding but the feel of the place is still unaffected. The Chalice Well: The Holy Grail is said to be buried at the source of the spring. This is an excellent site which gives a virtual tour of the gardens. The water that comes from the spring is high in iron which is apparent when you taste it. Its not unpleasant just slightly metallic. Cadbury Castle: The site of Camelot? Check out the website and decide for yourself. It is approximately 1/2 hours drive from Glastonbury and you can look back across to the Tor. Shops Some of the shops come and go so I can’t guarantee that they will be there when you visit but be assured that Glastonbury always has interesting little shops and many more than are listed below! Heartfelt: The place for all things fairy. A beautiful shop and if you venture upstairs you can get sprinkled with fairy dust and get a wish ( completely free and as much for adults as children). Goddess and the Greenman: Cauldrons, besoms, books, hare statues, Greenman plaques and much more... The Speaking Tree: Metaphysical and Spiritual books galore. Art of Africa: Musical instruments made out of gourds and bracelets made of electrical wire! You are allowed to rattle and bang... so much fun!
Restaurants and Cafes Cafe Galatea, 7 High Street, Glastonbury. Tel 01458 834284: Fabulous food! Totally vegetarian and with a large vegan selection. I had the Enchilada which came with vegan cheese and sour ‘cream’. Delicious. Not a good selection of vegan desserts though Rainbows End Cafe, 17a High Street: Venture in the little door and past the gorgeous little shop and you will get to the Rainbows End. A good selection for vegans with normally a couple of hot dishes and most of the salads being vegan. Most importantly they do the most amazingly rich vegan chocolate brownie cake! And if you are too full just get some to take away. |
